NEWS:
From Mr. Arnone:
Happy Monday to you all. Well, here we are at the last week of summer. It certainly was a lovely one this year. I am sure that fall will be just as special for all of us. We’ve got lots going on this week including our second Open House. Please read the attached letter that outlines the evening for you. Tonight’s event is for parents and guardians of Grades K and 1 students. Thank you in advance for arranging to have childcare for your children to enable you to attend. We’re looking forward to another great evening of learning and sharing.
We all feel that safety is key to everything we do here at Holland Hill. It is because of this that I ask for your assistance. Please review our wonderful and well thought-out drop-off and pick-up procedures and some reminders of other safety rules in the attached letter. Please read and follow the rules outlined in this letter so that we will all have safe and peaceful beginnings and endings to every school day.
As always, thank you for all the support that you give to making each and everyday work for our children. Enjoy your week.
Mr. Arnone
Holland Hill Has the Makings of Its First School Garden!
If you haven’t noticed already, we have made great progress on the installation of the school garden. GreenGourmetToGo had agreed to help sponsor the initial building of the garden and built the raised bed boxes and will be filling them with organic soil and compost in the next two weeks and will also be buying plants for a very small fall planting. We’ll be looking for volunteers to help plant and care for one box this fall as a way to ”christen” the garden with one crop before the weather gets too cold.
With the most generous help from A. Anastasio fencing, we now have a very beautiful, secure fence surrounding the boxes and it will provide a safe haven for the many vegetables we hope to have growing in the seasons to come. I’m pretty sure the day the fence was actually installed was one of the hottest and cruelest of the summer so let’s give a big Holland Hill “Thank You” to Mr. Anastasio and his team for doing such a quality job under a difficult situation and in such a hurry so that it was up before school started.
As we get closer the coming spring, we hope that some of our teachers will have collaborated and adopted their grade level box and tied this concept into the curriculum so that planting can begin next year. Stay tuned for more news on the garden and ways you can help! If you have any questions or comments in the meantime, you can contact Linda Soper atLSoper123@gmail.com.
Many thanks to those who attended meetings before the school year ended – we’ll be looking for your help in the near future!
Book Fair Committee Meeting
The Holland Hill Scholastic Book Fair is scheduled for the week of October 18th. If you are interested in a position on one of our committees, please join us for an informational meeting on Tuesday, September 21st at 8:15 a.m. in the school library. We are looking for help in the following areas: One For Books, Teacher Wish List, Contests & Prizes, School Publicity, Decorations, Gift Certificates and Volunteer (Thank You) Bulletin Board, to name a few. If you have any questions, please contact Mary Carilli at macarilli@aol.com or Donna Fallacaro at ctcrew@optonline.net.
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Please log into the K12 Alerts System as soon as possible and update all your child’s information (see the attached instructions).
As you know, there were no emergency cards sent home this year. We are using the information listed on the K12 Alerts System as our emergency cards. If the nurse, office or teacher needs to get in touch with you because of an emergency, the numbers and contacts on your form is what will be used.
If you do not have access to a computer, please call the office and we will set up a time for you to come in and use a computer in the Library.
If you cannot find your ID Numbers and Password, please call the office and we will be happy to give them to you.
Thank you for your help.
