Health, Safety and Fitness Committee Tip… Did you know…?

A Social norm is defined as behavioral expectations shared by a social group. Not
necessarily the most widely practiced behavior. Kids often severely misperceive
the typical behaviors or attitudes of their peers. For example, research shows that
most teens typically overestimate the level at which their peers are drinking. Truth
is, while the level of underage drinking in Fairfield exceeds state and national
levels, the majority of them are making positive decisions and choose not to drink
alcohol. In partnership with our schools, The Cares Task Force and Positive Directions,
have developed a social norms media campaign. The objective is to help correct misperceptions
among our teens that everyone is drinking. This poster campaign presents the fact,
“most Fairfield teens choose not to drink…..you’re not the only one”.
See a video created for this campaign.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lwha53EHL7U

Fairfield PTA Council

Fairfield PTA Council is looking for New Board Members
The Fairfield PTA Council board is composed of PTA members in Fairfield public schools
that have an interest in seeing how the entire town can benefit from working together.
We are a body of elected and appointed people that focus on town-wide issues with
the nexus of education. There is no topic that is irrelevant to the PTA Council
because we understand how, as a town, education is important but is one of many
important things to our town. We help to keep our PTAs informed of information about
our town, as well as education and child-related information on the town, state,
and federal level.
For the 2012-13 school year, the following positions are up for election and/or
appointment:  President-Elect, VP of Programming, VP of Legislation & Membership,
Board of Education Representative, Education Budget Representative, Awards, Fairfield
High Schools Scholarship (Dora Wheeler), Green Committee, Health Safety & Fitness,
and RTM Liason.
If you would like to find out what these positions involve, or would like more information
about PTA Council, please contact Mary Hogue, Past PTAC President, at maryhogue@optonline.net
